Future of emails one can find on MySpace and Facebook pages.
Such a conclusion was made based on a quite interesting article of Stefanie Olsen published in CNET News.com. The journalist communicated with young internet businessmen and concluded that they use email quite rarely, preferring communication by means of social networks.
Martina Butler, the owner of the teenage podcast show Emo Girl Talk, at the conference Mashup 2007 confessed that she uses the email only on business related aims and in order to attract sponsors. “Sometimes I say that I am sending an email, meaning that I send a message via MySpace or Facebook”, - Martina says.
Indeed email faces strong competition from the internet pagers, internet telephony as well as social networks where the part of spam is not that huge, although there is some ad garbage at Twitter.
Young people consider social networks to be more convenient as a method of communication. The president of Scriptovia.com, Asheem Badshah, says that he communicates with all his friends only by means of social networks. He says that even IM are already in past for him and Facebook will replace the emails.
One more reason of emails popularity fading away among the teenagers is cell phone supporting via the social networks. Martina Butler uses mobile version of Facebook: “I need Facebook wherever I go as long as I check my email once per week”.
Although there is another problem when using social networks – teenagers have to sign up at various networks at one time. As when using just one social network, one can lose some of his/her friends.
